Map the accounts worth pursuing before sourcing contacts

Build a bounded account universe from your commercial evidence. Normalize identities, apply exclusions, and separate fit tiers from the signals that affect timing.

    Define the market

Business model, size, geography and ability to benefit.

    Resolve and qualify accounts

Combine sources without buying contacts for bad-fit companies.

Define the universe you can actually serve

A new outbound motion, market expansion or territory review starts TAM mapping. The output is a qualified account universe with provenance, coverage gaps, fit tiers and ownership. It is not every company a database can return.

Start with who can benefit and buy. Business model, size, geography, existing systems and organizational capacity should have a commercial reason. Compare won deals with losses and disqualifications. A list built only from wins can miss markets you have never worked and biases you have never tested.

Assemble the account universe

  1. Agree inclusion and exclusion rules with the people who own revenue. Mark untested assumptions rather than presenting them as established customer patterns.
  2. Name the unit of account: parent company, subsidiary, location or product division. Buying decisions may happen below a corporate parent.
  3. Combine complementary sources: existing CRM accounts, public directories, category lists and approved databases. Record source and observation date.
  4. Normalize domains and legal names. Resolve duplicates before adding contacts. Keep distinct subsidiaries when their ownership or buying process differs.
  5. Qualify the account against minimum fit using sourced facts. Missing evidence becomes a research state, not a positive qualification.
  6. Tier commercial fit separately from timing. Store reason codes and a model version so a later rule change can be traced.
  7. Overlay customers, open deals, territory owners, exclusions and current campaigns. The same account cannot become a new cold prospect in two queues.
  8. Map the right motion: Volume, Signal-led, Micro campaigns or Tier 1 ABM. Source buying-group contacts only after the account merits the expense.

List coverage is not market coverage. A database may overrepresent funded software companies, English-language sites or familiar regions. Inspect the omissions and use another source where they matter. No source's total is automatically the size of your TAM.

Validate the map

Review a mixed sample of included, excluded and unresolved accounts with sales. Check identity, the reason for inclusion and whether the buying job matches your service. Backtest rules only on mature outcomes whose historical facts you can recover.

Track qualification yield, identity conflicts, research backlog and qualified conversations by segment. Revisit the ICP using the score calibration workflow. The buying-group guide explains which people matter after the account earns a place.

How we run this

Put it to work in your company.

Our outbound and ABM lane plugs into your company’s GTM brain. Start with one lane; services can run in parallel.

Book a call
  1. Week 1Your GTM brain

Monday kickoff. A 45-minute review Friday to confirm the context.

  2. Weeks 2–3Connect the lane plugin

Wire it into your existing tools and test the work with your team.

  3. Week 4Live, then improve

About three hours of your time in month one, then 15 minutes a week.

The first term is three months. The brain and lane plugin are handed over in full after it. Your accounts and data stay yours.
